3D Printing

To really unlock the potential of 3D printing, you’ll want to learn some form of CAD to create models from scratch. I’ll include some links below on learning CAD. To start with, you may instead want to print models someone else has made and posted to a site like Thingiverse.

The best way to get started is to buy a relatively cheap 3D printer (the Creality Ender 3 is a great starting option under $200. Click here), download some files from Thingiverse, and start printing! There will be a lot of speed bumps along the way, but there’s a thriving community folks online just a single search away who can help you troubleshoot your issues.

Below are some resources that can help, but if you get really stuck I do tutoring in 3D printing both online and in person in the Atlanta area. Just send me a message through the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Resources

Thomas has great videos on all components of 3D printing including: slicer settings, printer reviews, and CAD. Start with his video on 3D printing basics.

Angus seems to love geeking out about odd things like shapes of constant width. Start with his video on designing a Maker Coin in Fusion 360.
